Body Party

I’m not usually the greatest at picking up new music, and I’m definitely a stick-with-my-classic-faves kinda person, but Ciara is one of those artists whose albums I bought on CD (anyone remember those?) and I was a big fan so I am so glad to see she’s back making music.

Ciara is looking amazing in this video and I’m definitely inspired by her two makeup looks, her ombré hair (I don’t want this trend to end, it suits everyone) and her 90s inspired track pants and vest combo.

Desert (island) Essentials

I’m making a little trip up to the most arid desert on Earth. This is what I have in my backpack!

Everything is high in SPF but the colour palette is pretty neutral, so I can mix things up a bit. I love the Mythical eyeshadow in particular because its really buildable, and can take me from pretty day to bright, shimmery night in a few swipes of the brush! (Sorry my brushes aren’t pristine in this photo!)

Beauty Review: Tarte multiplEYE primer & Lights, Camera, Lashes!

I’ve always been a bit funny with mascara, and must admit it’s never been one of my favourite beauty items. It was one of the last makeup products I started wearing; I’d only ever use it for special occasions because I hated that it was so difficult to budge, and I always seemed to be losing lashes in the process of taking it off. I even went through a phase of just wearing false lashes instead! (yup, even in the day time… it didn’t last long)

Mascara is also a pretty complicated product to buy and try out. Everybody uses a different one and has a different method, not to mention its countless brush/comb, plastic/fibre, curling/lengthening/volumizing combos… It’s all a bit of a palava and then  you still have to decide whether you want black, very black or whatever new black there is this time round! Beauty Review: The Lip Scrub & Sugar Lip Treatment

I decided my first reviews would be of the things I’ve used most, which have to be the lip products! I’m a big fan of a statement lipstick, so keeping my lips in tip top condition is high on my list of priorities!

I’m Melting!

*wicked witch of the west voice optional*

What do we do when the temperature goes up? Strip down of course! Replacing jumpers and with crop tops and jeans with shorts, even the modest among us are showing a little more flesh now that the sun is out. But what about your face?

Are you still wearing the full she-bang of concealer, foundation, powder, blusher and bronzer? Has your face actually felt the sun?!

While the carefree out there are frolicking sans foundation, I for one know that this is not something everyone is comfortable with. So my solution is, think light! Only wear what i really essential, and let your natural skin shine. The extra vitamin D will do it some good!

In the summer time I strip back from wearing foundation and go back to basics. A little bit of concealer to cover scars, hyperpigmentation, spots and the like, over a high SPF primer, then a quick (and light!) dusting of Mineralize Skin Finish Natural powder, with a little blusher if I’m feeling fancy.

Wearing heavy slap in the summer is not only a pain because it melts, but it can actually make your skin worse, by clogging your pores with oily, melted makeup. Which only fuels the vicious cycle of wearing more makeup to cover it!

And while we’re talking skincare, do make sure you’re wearing SPF. Even on cloudy days UV rays are damaging to your skin. I religiously wear an SPF 50 primer on my face everyday. It’s that important!

So let your skin breathe, only cover the bits you really can’t bear to see, and feel the warmth of the sun on your skin.

I promise you, its beautiful 🙂

What’s your summer makeup routine?

Summer’s Here!

The sun came out yesterday, I know, but I had an exam to cram for and sit, so today was the true arrival of summer for me. It might be because I spent half of my life in the Caribbean, but something about sunshine just makes me so happy! The words of Lauryn Hill, ‘nothing even matters, to me‘ are especially applicable when the weather is favourable.

It also means I get to show a bit of skin and catch a tan if I’m lucky, so that was the pretext for my outfit today.

What did you do today?

What’s your favourite makeup brand?

I hate being predictable, and fitting in with the crowd, but I do have to admit that MAC cosmetics are my absolute favourite. I’m a die-hard MAC fan. I don’t know what it is. Something about the smooth, sleek black packaging and the vibrant, highly pigmented products just makes me swoon. The prices are usually fairly reasonable (except the new Gareth Pugh line – WTF MAC? Seriously?), the products last practically forever, and they always look awesome – what’s there to complain about?

Since entering the blogosphere however,  I hope to begin to experiment with some of the products favourited out there, like NARS Orgasm blush, and Illamasqua foundations…. Only time will tell if they can make it onto my favourites list. Til’ then I’m MAC til’ I die.
